E-mail Print PDF

Only seven sports were presented at the first Universiade in Turin, Italy in 1959.More than half a century later Kazan sets a record by including 26 sports in the programme of the 27th World University Summer Games: track and field athletics, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, basketball, diving, fencing, football, judo, artistic gymnastics, volleyball, tennis and water polo. Kazan chose a record number of optional sports, 13 of which were approved. The Kazan Universiade will feature the most popular and developed sports in Russia and Tatarstan: boxing, trap and skeet shooting, synchronised swimming, rowing racing, kayak/canoe racing, sambo, belt wrestling, chess, weightlifting, rugby-7, field hockey, badminton, beach volleyball. It’s for the first time that the Universiade will feature six new sport events: badminton, chess, belt wrestling, rugby-7, sambo and beach volleyball.
AJJBWF has congratulated the leadership of IBWA for its visionary steps and putting Belt Wrestling more popular in the world. This inclusion of sports in the Universiade Sports will surely enhance the popularity of belt Wrestling in the world.
