A collective consultation on the promotion of traditional sports and games was held in Tehran

A collective consultation on the promotion of traditional sports and games was held in Tehran (Islamic Republic of Iran), from 16 to 20 January 2009. The meeting gathered 22 high level experts from all over the world to discuss the promotion and preservation of TSG worldwide.

Organized by UNESCO, in partnership with the Physical Education Organization (PEO) of Iran, the second collective consultation focused on the implementation of a UNESCO Advisory Committee. It will provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge and capacity building on TSG, and function as an "umbrella body", advising UNESCO in order to achieve a common vision in the protection and promotion of TSG.

The participants of the consultation adopted the preliminary statutes of the forthcoming Advisory Committee and proposed a provisional bureau including:

President: Rif Gaynanov (Russian Federation)

Vice-President: Mohammad Hadi Hesam (Islamic Republic of Iran)

Secretary-General: Khalil Ahmed Khan (Pakistan)

The bureau is also composed of 12 international experts. It will work closely with UNESCO in the preparation of all necessary documentation leading to the endorsement of the Committee’s statutes by UNESCO's Executive Board. Iran has pledged to support the running of this Committee by providing its financial backing.

In addition, the meeting facilitated the following conclusions:

Ju-Jitsu and its Wonders

Ju-Jitsu and its Wonders

One wonders when he hears such a complicated word “ju-jitsu” when he is flipping through a dictionary. Ju-jitsu is not as complicated as it seems by its name; in fact, it is one of the most interesting forms of art of self-defense. Firstly, to make you clear about the etymology of ju-jitsu, I tell you strictly that ju-jitsu was never a sport, it is not a sport and it will never be a sport. It is a highly practical and effective art of self-defense. It is according to some scholars, “the art of defense without the use of weapons against an attacker who is armed or unarmed”.

Ju-jitsu is an art of all ages. You do not need to be super-fit or possess superpowers to do ju-jitsu. It does not belong only to the Samurais but it is a form of art which is universal, even a four-year-old can try his luck and go and do “ju-jitsu”.

When God created this world, it was not intended to go full of crimes after man realized that he had a tendency to use the evil side of his brain. Now, what is needed in this world is protection or in deeper meanings self-defence. And that’s where ju-jitsu comes in; ju-jitsu is perfect for self-defense as it teaches the use of minimum force to control situations. Thus, it is also religiously and politically right to defend yourself from a person who acts like a wild hog and goes super-crazy. In addition to that, we must not forget ju-jitsu has innumerable benefits to you, your family and of course, your society. Ju-jitsu, on one hand gives you the ability to effectively defend yourself and give you the confidence and courage to face the torturous realities of life. This way it helps in your internal growth. The harder you train your body, the more you grow spiritually.

Moreover, it keeps you self-disciplined and self-sufficient so, finally when you fall and not get hurt, you don’t need to go your mom and tell her about the tragedy that just took place. Furthermore, ju-jitsu keeps you fit and fine so your family doesn’t get any chance to scold you because they think ju-jitsu is a waste of time. No! Ju-jitsu is not a waste of time; it assists you in your personal and work life. It provides the confidence to make decisions and for you to take charge of the situation so, basically Ju-jitsu results in you becoming a well-rounded personality.

To conclude myself, I would encourage you to go check for the nearest training session because if you ignore my words and the importance of ju-jitsu, you will regret your decision for the rest of your boring ju-jitsu less life. So, now’s the time and all I want to say is GO FOR IT!
